Los Domingos follows Ainara, a quiet and withdrawn 17-year-old girl studying at a Catholic high school in Bilbao, who wishes to undertake a period of immersion with the nuns in a convent, where Mother Isabel alone will decide on her final admission. This desire sparks worry and confusion among her loved ones, creating rifts between each member of the family. Maite, her devoted aunt - who never seems to receive even the slightest recognition - clashes with her brother Iñaki, the father of our young aspiring nun. In contrast, he appears completely indifferent to his daughter, accepting without further questioning her decision to withdraw from the world around her as we know it.

The film presents fully developed and complex characters, exposing the viewer to each perspective without granting us the comfort of taking a clear side.

Formally, it plays with ambiguity and a constant dichotomy between the tangible elements (objects, settings) and stylistic choices (light, sound) of modern life and those of a rustic, pastoral world—and it rightfully won the Goya Award.

The Girl In The Snow, Louise Hémon, 2025

The Girl in the Snow, directed by Louise Hémon, won the André Bazin and Jean Vigo prizes at the 78th edition of the Cannes Film Festival.

Set in the High Alps in the depths of winter at the turn of the twentieth century, the film follows Aimée, a young woman from the city who travels into the mountains to teach the children of a remote village. Aside from her, the adult women are absent; only the children, the grandmothers, and the men of all ages remain. Shot in a 4:3 aspect ratio, the film becomes an open-air chamber piece, creating a striking sense of verticality between the mountain walls, constantly threatened by avalanches that will engulf more than one of them.

Deeply feminist, the film explores female desire within its historical context, reversing the gaze so that the man becomes the subject observed by a woman. Mystical, visually arresting, and enigmatic, The Girl in the Snow offers multiple layers of interpretation. So head to the cinema and discover your own!

Mouse, Kelly O’Sullivan and Alex Thompson, 2025

Mouse is the couple’s directors Kelly O’Sullivan and Alex Thompson second long feature, after Ghostlight in 2024 (which I highly recommend as well!)

Its world premiere was at the 76th edition of the Berlinale, thus not released yet. Unravelling in Little Rock, Arkansas (birthplace of the female director), Minnie (interpreted by the talented Katherine Mallen Kupferer) sees her world falling apart after the sudden disappearance of her best friend Callie. The latter is radiant, popular, extraverted and appreciated by everyone, when Minnie tends to be more reserved, shy, and used to hide in Callie’s shadow, which will force her to step out in the light and explore her own identity. 

Helen, the deceased girl’s mother, will become Callie’s emotional support and vice versa, going through reminiscence of their loved one and different stages of grief together, forging a sole and peculiar bond, further widening the gap in his relationship with his biological mother.

The film explores grief, adolescence, and first stirrings of love with sensitivity and a deeply authentic approach to reality. The characters are particularly endearing and genuine, allowing the audience to identify with them, feel close to them, and experience intense emotions alongside them.
